Beaver Valley Section #7 - 3rd Line to Side Road 13A - 104.5km to 89.5km



Ten hikers met at 7:30am for our 3rd and final hike in the second Spring series.  Joining the hike were Sandra (Sweep), Laura, Andrew, Doug, Barbara, Andrea, Frank, Rita, Nancy and Annette (hike coordinator). 


Although it was cooler for the earlier part of the hike the black flies and mosquitoes were still bothersome.  There were several long steep inclines to climb but once on top of the Escarpment we were rewarded with a cool breeze which helped disperse the pesky bugs.



We missed a turn on the main trail as the blazes were slightly hidden from view, and found ourselves fording the river, but we soon righted ourselves on the trail and crossed the river by bridge the second time!

We found a great location for our Elevenses slightly off the main trail at Epping-John Muir Lookout.  We enjoyed a peaceful and cool rest under the covered picnic pavilion and a breathtaking view looking easterly down the Beaver Valley. 



Refreshed we set off through meadows and pleasant deciduous forests and arrived at a large beaver pond.






Onward through cedar forests as we head towards the cars. 

This hike was a milestone for Barbara as she crossed the finish line for the Beaver Valley Section!

Homeward bound via the Rocklynn Inn Ice Cream Shop.

After over a month off the trail due to a seemingly endless stretch of inclement weather on consecutive Thursdays having caused frustrating cancellations, Hiking With Friends were finally rewarded with a classic late winter day to get out and enjoy our favourite walking path...and we took on a 15 km route from Crawford Lake southward to Mount Nemo with all our pent up energy (which, it turned out, was well needed to complete the journey)...and there was a nice celebration at the end to cap off a glorious outing!.. While hiking the Bruce Trail is our passion and we are seemingly quite proficient at it, our logistical organization can often be "a work in progress"...fortunately, with an experienced hike coordinator in charge, we eventually got sorted out and successfully assembled our group of 20 hikers in the parking lot at Crawford Lake to get our morning selfie shot on record...today'...

  Blue Mountain's Section - Devil's Glen (29.5 km) to Standing Rock (42.4 km) - August 8, 2025.  As Hiking With Friends has grown and prospered (more about the return on investment in "human bonds" than any monetary profit) over the last several years, there are certain routines, ceremonies, and rituals that have emerged and become part of the woven tapestry of our shared walking experience. Some days, they all come together over the course of several hours spent hiking the Bruce Trail and blend into a beautiful milieu of nature, camaraderie, and personal achievement.
