Beaver Valley Section #5 - Eugenia Falls (60.8km) to Johnston Road (74.3km)
This is the second series of our 3-day Spring hikes with 44kms hiked through the beautiful Beaver Valley. We had 3 days of sun, but unusually hot with clouds of pesky black flies and mosquitoes to contend with. A stark contrast to the perfect hiking weather of two weeks ago when we had cool temperatures, clear skies, and very few bugs!
Ken our HWF blogger had other priorities and was not able to join us (shocking!) so we have a joint effort on the blog for the 3-days, thanks to all who have contributed photos to our Beaver Valley hiking adventure in the heat!
Hikers joining Day 1 were Doug, Annette (hike coordinator for the 3 days), Barbara, Sandra (Sweep), Andrew, Nancy, Stephen, Laura, Catherine, Peter, Frank, Rita, Andrea, and Lesley.
A variety of much needed bug protective gear was in play today with bug sprays, repellents, protective netting of hats, jackets, and pants all in an attempt to keep the pesky bugs away.

The trail meanders through lush forests where we are thankful for the protection of the tree canopy from the afternoon sun.
We stop periodically to dip our cooling scarfs in the rivers and the welcome relief of the cold water.
Lots of climbing up and down the valley until we reach high on top of the escarpment and are rewarded with spectacular views across Cuckoo Valley and the mighty Beaver Valley.
We reach the cars parked at Johnston Road and then it's off to check into our accommodations spruce ourselves up and take time to relax and share stories of the trail.
This ends Day 1.........Day 2 to follow.........
