Dufferin Hi-land Section - Prince of Wales Road (41.7 km) to Rock Hill (29.4 km) - June 8, 2023





Hikers joining the 12.5 km hike from Prince of Wales Road (41.7km) to Rock Hill (29.4) were Doug, Annette, Frank, Josie, Barbara (this weeks hike coordinator), Andrew, Liz, Andrea, Rita and Nancy.  We certainly lucked out as the day was cool and dry. We escaped the smoke plumes from the wildfires and a pleasant breeze helped to keep the bugs away.

This is an interesting hike with loads of variety, hills, river, farmland, forests, lakes and rock crevices.  We start off on a climb up Prince of Wales Road and through forest where we have our bridge photo.





We reach the scenic Pine River Fishing Pond and follow the shoreline and we're soon hiking through a dense cedar forest.  The group was in fine fettle as we reached the Pine River and enjoyed the trail along the riverbank past the concrete shell of the Dufferin Light and Power Company generating station. 











The ascent out of the Pine River Valley will not be forgotten, as it is long, a lengthy steep incline!!  As we reach the summit we have a stretch of road walking which passes Whitfield Church. Luckily for the hike coordinator this section was fairly flat after misleading the group on the status of the earlier hills.  

The last kilometer of the hike is the Rockhill Corner where the trail follows crevices and caves.

After over a month off the trail due to a seemingly endless stretch of inclement weather on consecutive Thursdays having caused frustrating cancellations, Hiking With Friends were finally rewarded with a classic late winter day to get out and enjoy our favourite walking path...and we took on a 15 km route from Crawford Lake southward to Mount Nemo with all our pent up energy (which, it turned out, was well needed to complete the journey)...and there was a nice celebration at the end to cap off a glorious outing!.. While hiking the Bruce Trail is our passion and we are seemingly quite proficient at it, our logistical organization can often be "a work in progress"...fortunately, with an experienced hike coordinator in charge, we eventually got sorted out and successfully assembled our group of 20 hikers in the parking lot at Crawford Lake to get our morning selfie shot on record...today'...

Blue Mountains Section - Devil's Glen (29.5 km) to Standing Rock (42.4 km) - August 7, 2025.

  Blue Mountain's Section - Devil's Glen (29.5 km) to Standing Rock (42.4 km) - August 8, 2025.  As Hiking With Friends has grown and prospered (more about the return on investment in "human bonds" than any monetary profit) over the last several years, there are certain routines, ceremonies, and rituals that have emerged and become part of the woven tapestry of our shared walking experience. Some days, they all come together over the course of several hours spent hiking the Bruce Trail and blend into a beautiful milieu of nature, camaraderie, and personal achievement. Our 14 km adventure this past week was just exactly "one of those days".   Twelve hikers gathered at Devil's Glen early in the morning...myself, Faryde, Rita, Georgia, Marleen, Barbara, Annette, Andrew (H.C), Andrea, Josie, Ivan, and Frank L...it's going to get warm (aaaaagain) today, so let's get the show on the road... ...or at least beside it...
