Inspired by Ann Giles, who recently completed every single side trail of the entire Bruce Trail (respect!), the committee has decided to add occasional side trails to our hikes when they do not compromise our end-to-end goal.  Today was such a hike.  We completed five side trails - City View Park, Kerncliff Park, King, McNally and Norman Pearson.

There were 15 of us today.  It was a sunny, warm and hazy day.  Barbara asked me (Doug) to do the blog since Ken is away.  So, I took the group photo at the start.  Naturally, I screwed it up.  No start-photograph!  Here we are 15 minutes later at Kerncliff Park (all except I, taking the photograph) ...

Lots of mushrooms on the trail.  The orange ones could be Red Chanterelles (edible) or Emetic Russula (nauseating).  Where is Ron J when you need him?  One of them looks like it has glanders ...

After over a month off the trail due to a seemingly endless stretch of inclement weather on consecutive Thursdays having caused frustrating cancellations, Hiking With Friends were finally rewarded with a classic late winter day to get out and enjoy our favourite walking path...and we took on a 15 km route from Crawford Lake southward to Mount Nemo with all our pent up energy (which, it turned out, was well needed to complete the journey)...and there was a nice celebration at the end to cap off a glorious outing!.. While hiking the Bruce Trail is our passion and we are seemingly quite proficient at it, our logistical organization can often be "a work in progress"...fortunately, with an experienced hike coordinator in charge, we eventually got sorted out and successfully assembled our group of 20 hikers in the parking lot at Crawford Lake to get our morning selfie shot on record...today'...

  Blue Mountain's Section - Devil's Glen (29.5 km) to Standing Rock (42.4 km) - August 8, 2025.  As Hiking With Friends has grown and prospered (more about the return on investment in "human bonds" than any monetary profit) over the last several years, there are certain routines, ceremonies, and rituals that have emerged and become part of the woven tapestry of our shared walking experience. Some days, they all come together over the course of several hours spent hiking the Bruce Trail and blend into a beautiful milieu of nature, camaraderie, and personal achievement. Our 14 km adventure this past week was just exactly "one of those days".   Twelve hikers gathered at Devil's Glen early in the morning...myself, Faryde, Rita, Georgia, Marleen, Barbara, Annette, Andrew (H.C), Andrea, Josie, Ivan, and Frank L...it's going to get warm (aaaaagain) today, so let's get the show on the road... ...or at least beside it...
