Iroquoia Section Side Trails - Walkers Line to Kilbride School

 


Our hike this week was in the Iroquoia Section on the side trails between Walkers Line and Kilbride School.  We followed the main trail and explored Mount Nemo; River & Ruin; Dan Welsh; Squire Cleaver; and Kilbride Side trails.

The weather was crispy with some snow covering the ground as thirteen hikers set off on this 15.33km hike,  Liz, Marleen, Dave, Josie, Barbara (HC), Andrea, Rita, Laura (Photographer), Lesley (Sweep & Photographer), Frank, Ron, Steve (Photographer), Stephen (Photographer)


We head up the steep ascent and through the narrow gap in the escarpment to reach the top of Mount Nemo.



The group is warmed up and heads for Mount Nemo Side Trail and the long road trek of Colling Road and Blind Line.

Then we head into Bronte Creek Valley and the River & Ruins side trail.

Time to explore the side trails!



We visited the ruined home of Squire James Cleaver.  He was a land surveyor and raised 18 children in this small fieldstone house.  How many wives did he have?  Find out here Squire James Cleaver

Iroquoia Section - Crawford Lake (104.5 km) to Mount Nemo (91.0 km) - March 13, 2025.

After over a month off the trail due to a seemingly endless stretch of inclement weather on consecutive Thursdays having caused frustrating cancellations, Hiking With Friends were finally rewarded with a classic late winter day to get out and enjoy our favourite walking path...and we took on a 15 km route from Crawford Lake southward to Mount Nemo with all our pent up energy (which, it turned out, was well needed to complete the journey)...and there was a nice celebration at the end to cap off a glorious outing!.. While hiking the Bruce Trail is our passion and we are seemingly quite proficient at it, our logistical organization can often be "a work in progress"...fortunately, with an experienced hike coordinator in charge, we eventually got sorted out and successfully assembled our group of 20 hikers in the parking lot at Crawford Lake to get our morning selfie shot on record...today'...

  Blue Mountain's Section - Devil's Glen (29.5 km) to Standing Rock (42.4 km) - August 8, 2025.  As Hiking With Friends has grown and prospered (more about the return on investment in "human bonds" than any monetary profit) over the last several years, there are certain routines, ceremonies, and rituals that have emerged and become part of the woven tapestry of our shared walking experience. Some days, they all come together over the course of several hours spent hiking the Bruce Trail and blend into a beautiful milieu of nature, camaraderie, and personal achievement.
