Peninsula Section - Series #2 Jackson's Cove (51.9 km) to Barrow's Bay (67.9 km) - June 10, 2024


This 7.5 hour journey over 17.4 km involved 140 meters of climbing. The day started cool and the first couple of km were tough with glacial boulders to maneuver around, over and in between. When we rounded Cape Dundas we encountered 33 km gusting winds, which made the waves pretty to look at, but left us a little chilled. We had planned to stop at Rush Cove for elevensies, but quickly decided to find somewhere inland and away from the wind. We opted for the parking area at Rush Cove and were grateful for the port a potty, given all the poison ivy present. We then continued along the escarpment edge and descended steeply to the beach. If I recall correctly we saw a couple of bear droppings, one bear footprint and one snake. All in all we had a great time...I hope you enjoy the photos.

  Niagara Section - Swayze Falls (43.8 km) to Decew House Heritage Park (31.2 km) - June 29, 2023. The Hiking With Friends group was back up north for four challenging days of Bruce Trail adventure as our spring plan to tackle the Peninsula Section got underway...the first of the four hikes was planned from the parking at Colpoy's Bay, through the start of the section in Wiarton, with an added Sydenham Section walk to Bruce's Caves...   Iroquoia Section - 12.44km from the Sydenham Road Lookout to the Grindstone Falls, 25 January 2024. Unseasonably warm weather after vicious cold the week before.  Damp but no rain.  Fog.  Perfect weather for slip-sliding away on the Bruce Trail! It was so slippery that getting out of our cars was fraught.  There were 13 of us eager to get started - from left to right and barely visible apart from me (Doug) and my nostrils were Steve R, Barbara, Lesley, Liz, Nancy, Grace, Sandra, Andrea, Rita, Josie and Frank.  Marleen was in there somewhere but hiding!
