Iroquoia Side Trails - April 30 2026

Thursday April 30th - Iroquoia Side Trail

11 HWF hikers set off on this Iroquoia side trail adventure of 10.5km

Joining the hike were Josie (photographer) FrankL, Sandra (Sweep), Frances, Laura, Renu, Rita, Barbara (HC), Nancy, Annette, and we were so happy to have Liz back on the trail with us.

An out and back hike from Felkers Falls, we explored Mountain Brow Side Trail and Red Hill Creek Side Trail as well as visited three waterfalls, Albion Falls, Buttermilk Falls and Felkers Falls.

Early start!
This group of keen hikers arrived at Felkers Falls ahead of our scheduled start time.

The forest floor Ephemeral plants are starting to grow and we caught a glimpse of some wildflowers peaking up.

Above Albion Falls stands the Mill stone from the first grist mill opened at Albion Falls around 1800. This area was one of the earliest settlements in the Hamilton region.

Our Elevenses stop was at the Indigenous rest area designed in the shape of a bear paw.
A lovely spot, if you ignore the highway noise in the background.

and the Bridge Photo!

We had expected a perfect weather hiking day with Temp forecast as a hi of 12°C, clouds, sun and breezy in the morning.
However, what we got was the sunshine in liquid form periodically but not enough to dampen our spirits!
The water in this pond was so still the surface was like a mirror!  Love the colourful graffiti on the bridge pillars!

The elusive blue blazes on the side trails were difficult to find in places!  We had to pause at one point to search for the trail!

Two side trails and three waterfalls later we arrive back at the cars and that's the end of another weekly HWF hike.

See you on the trail next time.
