Dufferin Hi-Land Section #3 - Pine River - October 8, 2026, 12.46 km from the BTC Parking Area at km 28.3 on 1st Line East to Prince of Wales Road at 20 Sideroad.


Nine of us hiked: Steve R. (photos), Annette(HC), Lesley, Catherine V., Grace, Doug (blog), Andrea, Josie (photos), Georgia


We started west through wet cedar forest with lots of slippery moss-covered rocks, then mostly north with lots of road walking on 10 Sideroad, Centre Road, and Prince of Wales Road with periodic excursions into the bush, including a detour up and up, and yet more up, towards the end of the hike, which some BTC sadist put there. The highlight was the lovely Pine River Valley and its Provincial Fishing Area (where we stopped for elevensies). It was a lovely fall day, perfect for a walk in the woods.

Caledon Hills Section:  Willoughby Road (15.9 km) to Innis Lake Road (30.8 km) - Nov. 6, 2025. Sixteen of us and a goat (more on the goat later) hiked  15 km from Willoughby Road to Innis Lake Road.   It was a coldish day.  Mixed sun and cloud, with wind that mostly came from the north, sometimes from the east, not from the forecast northwest.  Winter is coming! From left to right, hiking were Doug (HC & photos), Grace, Frank, Marleen, Andrea, Frances (photos), Renu, Donna, Rita, Annette (photos), Barbara, Faryde, Ivan (photos), Andrew (photos), Sandra (sweep) and Ron B.  A cheerful group, full of beans! Off we go, leaving Willoughby Road immediately, climbing to the abandoned wind pump and the library in the bush ... . .. and into a glorious carpet of fallen leaves. Road walking on Escarpment Sideroad (lots more to come) and the Highway 10 pedestrian underpass. Back to the bush ... Back to the Escarpment Sideroad where we spot Toronto on the horiz...

Toronto Section - Winston Churchill Road (42.9 km) to 8th Line (32.3 km) - October 30, 2025.

  Toronto Section - W inston Churchill Road  (42.9 km) to 8th Line (32.3 km) - Oct. 30,2025. Hike #4 in the Toronto Section is 10.6k hike starting at Winston Churchill Blvd through Terra Cotta Conservation area, and finishing at 8th Line. Eleven hikers joined the hike Georgia, Diane, Frances, Frank, Marleen, Annette, Grace, Barbara (HC), Sandra, Rita, and Doug (photos). The trail was covered with fallen leaves but mostly dry which made for a good start to the hike.   We got our bridge picture taken early in anticipation of the forecasted rain. Off we headed along the leafy trail taking care to traverse the hidden rocks. Clothing adjustments shortly after we started kept us busy. It is a perfect start to the hike. Some stretches of the forest in Terra Cotta Conservation area the trees have dropped all their leaves and the trail was a mosaic of bright autumn colours.   Peninsula Section - Series #4 - Crane Lake to the Northern Cairn in Tobermory - June 23 to 25, 2026. --------------------------- Day One : Little Cove (156.4 km) to Marr Lake/Cyprus Lake (145.3 km) - June 23, 2026. Hiking With Friends concluded its World Cup of Walking the Bruce Peninsula this past week with 3 days of enjoyment in the rugged beauty in the National Park that 'bears' its name...it would conclude with a special moment that once again added to the rich tapestry of Bruce Trail memories that our group has woven over the years...Day One was unique in its own right as, due to severe parking time restrictions recently imposed at Little Cove, a creative plan was necessitated that meant our group was split in two and took on the roughly 14 km route from opposite directions...
