Niagara Section - Glenn Rd (56.6km) to Swayze Falls (43.0km) August 10, 2023
This week the Hiking with Friends group were in the Niagara Section - Glenn Road to Swayze Falls 13.6 km.
The hike today was led by coordinator: Annette
Hikers joining are: Steve R (long arm and photographer), Barbara, Annette (photographer), Marleen, Frances, Lesley (1st time blogger and photographer), Doug (photographer), Grace, Andrea, Sandra (sweep), Frank, Rita, Steve K,
Josie (photographer), and Ron B.
This hike was technically difficult to start with and was
made treacherous by a light shower that ended just
as we arrived at Glenn Road car park.
We started off in our rain gear and then quickly switched
out of it as we descended into the humid, slippery forest.
our friends succumbed to the slippery slopes.
Several wineries were passed and locations
noted for future reference...
More smiles..
After bit of road walking we stopped by signage for
Staff Winery for some fun pictures.

Bacchus is honoured with symbols of
the Lyre and a bunch of Grapes.
A very happy Josie!
Frankly, a nice smile...
Louth Falls provided a lovely display.
As always, we are interested in Nature's bounty...
The Eastern Black Walnut - Juglans nigra.
This species must be prolific here as there is a Black Walnut Side Trail just north of here.
we watch anxiously from the bottom by the stream.
coordinator made a decision to offer part of the group a less muddy (and safer) route.
Steve K kindly leads that group to meet up with us again
shortly on Pelham Road in Rockway.
where the 9 of us stop for a bridge picture.
And up another muddy tract to join our friends for elevensies!
We stopped for elevensies at a set of conveniently placed logs, mostly mosquito free, with a slight breeze.
Nurse Annette was able to adjust a right handed wrist aid
to fit an injured left wrist. Andrea was a trooper and continued the rest of the hike with the support of her friend Josie.
We are only at the half way point!
We rise up out of the forest to a lovely farm with a few horses, a red barn and a couple of stiles bordering the property.
Very stylish...
Entering Short Hills Provincial Park everyone cleaned their boots off to prevent invasive species contamination.
Then it was almost a sprint to the end.
Leaving the Bruce trail, the shortcut out to the
car-park is poorly signposted.
Entering from the car-park the way is clearly indicated.
As always a challenging and enjoyable hike with friends.
In the end the wet conditions on the trail
delayed us by 1/2 hour.
gaffes, or mistakes are solely the fault of this blogger!
