Dufferin Hi-land Section - Prince of Wales (40.7 km) to Lavender (53.8 km) - August 28, 2025.

Dufferin Section #4 hike from Prince of Wales 40.7km to Lavender Cemetery 53.88km for a total of 13.18km

Joining the hike were Andrew (HC), Doug, Barbara, Annette, Rita, SteveR, Laura, Grace, Peter, Sandra, Ivan, Faryde, Renu, Josie Lesley, and Marleen.

An early morning start for most of the 16 hikers and a big day in the Dufferin Section for four of the group.

There were no surprises for the start of the hike, Andrew(HC) had given clear hike details for the rainy forecast and the mixed trail terrain.

The group donned their colourful rain gear in preparation for a wet hike and set off at a brisk pace with the steep uphill climb.

The much needed rain made the trail wet and soggy, but there were no bugs to contend with.

The first half of the hike was slow going with rocky sections.

A rerouted section through a cow pasture was well fenced with multiple stiles and electric fences that slowed the pace.
Considerable effort has gone into the design of the trail with new fences, gates, and many stiles. Both cattle and hikers can navigate through the area safely.
Thanks to the landowner and trail maintenance for a job well done on the reroute!

A happy herd of cattle ignore the group passing through their pasture.

Crossing Black Bank River

Josie, Grace, Rita, Renu and the group enjoying a dry moment.

The rest of the hike was pretty soggy.

Elevensies in the rain!

A soggy rest in the forest!

It was pretty sloshy in places and a good test of the rain gear!

A bit of a road walk back to the cars with beautiful scenery and moody skies.

There was lots of chatter and excitement with several of the group heading off on their fall adventures.

A big finish for four hikers completing the Dufferin Section and a poles up ceremony at the end of the hike.

Congratulations Grace!

Congratulations Josie!

Congratulations Renu!

Congratulations Rita!

Safe travels to our adventurers.
See you on the trail soon.
