Caledon Hills Section - Mono Centre (72.2km) to Dunby Road (67.8km) - September 4, 2025
Abbreviated version of Caledon #6, from Mono Centre (72.2) to Dunby Road offroad parking (67.8) for 4.4km - September 4, 2025
Caledon #6 is a 17.5km hike, normally walked from 4th Line EHS to Mono Centre. This day we planned to hike south. Just as well! Rain had been forecast for the early morning but on our way to the meet we experienced a deluge which had traffic creeping along with emergency flashers at 20 klicks per hour. Peter, who aims to finish his End-to-End this fall, needed the fragment from Mono Centre to Dunby Road. Sandra, our esteemed Keeper-of-the-records, advised that we should get Peter's bit out of the way first. (Last year when we hiked in the opposite direction, Peter sat down at Dunby Road and refused to go any further!) Shocked by the downpour and fearing trail conditions all the way to the 4th Line, we made a field-decision to cut the hike short at Dunby Road, making the official distance a mere 4.4km.
There were 10 of us hiking. From left to right, Lesley, Georgia, Grace, Doug (HC), Frances, Annette, Renu, Laura, Peter and, staring at his camera as though he did not trust it, Steve R.
Off we went, crossing a stile almost at once ...
... with its usual lovely views.
After a scramble down a jumble of very slippery rocks, we won through to the 3rd Line EHS, where Annette out-oranged some Chinese Lanterns (Alkekengi Officinarum) in bloom. These invasive (aka alien) plants are very pretty.
And then it was a short walk (maybe 1km?) south on the 3rd Line EHS and west on Dunby Road to our cars and Peter's Caledon Section Completion Ceremony!
