 Iroquoia Section - Felker's Falls (23.2 km) to Lewis Road (11.1 km) - March 12, 2026.

Hiking With Friends ventured around the horn again this past week to slip, slide and slop their way 13 kms from Felker's Falls Conservation Area to the parking area at the end of Lewis Road...we saw a Punchbowl, passed by Fruitland, and ended up in Vinemont...it doesn't get much sweeter than that...

We consider the Bruce Trail our ground to play on...and 12 eager hikers assemble at Felker's Falls on a sunny March morning to start their march...myself, Steve R, Lesley, Renu, Steve K, Grace, Doug (H.C), Annette, Ivan, Faryde, Barbara, and Diane...we will be the only people on earth to do what we are about to do today...think about that...or not...

It's only a few minutes before we reach Felker's Falls, and the spring melt runoff is creating the highest flow rate you will ever see at this normally "trickly" downspout...

The sky is clear, the wind is at our backs (thanks Doug), and the trail is surprisingly firm after last night's below freezing temperatures...unfortunately, that solid footing will not last...

"Fjording" is going to be the task of the day as there are numerous small creeks and rivulets cascading down the escarpment that must be traversed on our journey...waterproof boots are essential...and caution...

Our collective obsession with blazes does not ring hollow, and this peculiar one has a unique location...

A relatively new bridge helps us cross one of the larger stream beds, and provides a spot for a photo that reflects the mood of the day so far...

If falling water is your thing, then this is a hike for you...peak flow makes for a thunderous display at the impressive Devil's Punchbowl...

But we have to keep making tracks, so after tackling the long staircase out of the valley, it's across the rails we go...and back on the trails...

Death by Blaze...first white, and maybe a blue one too?..and old wrecks that remind us that this thin ribbon of nature is impacted by its urban proximity...

The temperature has risen slightly and we are travelling along the base of the escarpment so it's inevitable that the trail conditions have turned to...muck. It makes for a much tougher slog and adds just that extra layer of tiredness to already lagging legs...

So why not take a break and recharge the energy levels for the second half?..Doug has done yeoman work collecting a good deal of trash that unfortunately is also prevalent in these more developed areas...

More road crossing and stream hopping leads to a quite pleasant open area and some welcome sunshine...

The valleys seem endless...up and down and up again...it's work, and fun, all rolled into one...

It's a sign...that we've been looking for...the Lewis Road Side Trail beckons us down to our dropped cars and relief from tired legs and minds...there's a lot of effort in maintaining your balance in these conditions but thankfully we all stayed upright and pulled each other through the morass...what more could we ask?

The dirty dozen celebrates its achievement of another great HWF experience...thanks for following along!

The End

Sir Hike-A-Lot has a truncated rest stop...
