Iroquoia Section - Guelph Line (81.6) to Mount Nemo (91.0) - April 9, 2026

Iroquoia - April 9, 2026 - 9.7 km from Guelph Line to Mount Nemo Conservation Area parking lot.

On a gorgeous spring morning, 14 of us start from the soft-shoulder of Guelph Line south of the No. 1 Sideroad.  Scary traffic.  The trail notices on the map indicate that the Main Trail is closed indefinitely due to construction on private land.

Off we go.  We walk up Guelph Line to the the No. 1 Sideroad and cross there.  We head east on the sideroad and stop for a group photo (some churls among us refuse to pose) at an extravagant floral display on the gates of a mansion.

We walk north on Walkers Line to the No. 2 Sideroad, the Salem Pioneer Cemetery and the east entrance to the Mount Nemo Conservation Area.

Now we're in the forest, sheltered from the wind, and a water-halt is called.

The climb up the escarpment.

We hike on to the observation platform overlooking the Mount Nemo Golf Course, where we stop for early elevensies.

Off we go again.

We stop to admire a Mourning Cloak butterfly which refuses to open its wings for Sir Hike-a-Lot to photograph.  You can just see a black dot at the end of the arrow in the photo.  That's the butterfly.  It almost certainly emerged as an adult last July and over-wintered here.  At 10 to 11 months, Mourning Cloaks are among the longest lived butterflies in the world!

We stop just short of the Mount Nemo west entrance on the Colling Road allowance to celebrate Josie's completion of the Iroquoia Section with our usual pole ceremony.  Well done Josie!  Only the Peninsula to finish before you've done the whole trail!

The End
