Dufferin Hi-Land Section #4 - 20 Sideroad at Prince of Wales Road, to Lavender Cemetery at Mulmur-Nottawasaga Townline - July 23, 2026

Dufferin Hi-Land #4 - July 23, 2026 - 13.2 km from 20 Sideroad at Prince of Wales Road, to Lavender Cemetery at Mulmur-Nottawasaga Townline.


 Nine of us gather on a lovely sunny morning, cool with enough breeze for us to wear layers, eager to get going ...

Off we go,  west on 20 Sideroad and straight up its fierce climb.


After climbing and climbing, we emerge into fields and full sun.  Layers are shed and glorious vistas are enjoyed.







We re-enter the woods after again crossing Prince of Wales Road and almost immediately go off-piste. Instead of crossing the small stream and climbing left up the escarpment, we follow the stream (which is quickly joined by other streams and becomes large) until we can go no further.  Josie backtracks and finds our mistake. On we go, encountering a beautiful but enigmatic box, a torrent, a bridge for our traditional picture, and signage from the recent Dufferin Hi-Land's end-to-end, before breaking out once more into the fields at Black Bank, crossing County Road 21 and reaching 1st Line EHS.  Everyone is still cheerful.  We take our blunder with the stream in stride, although there is some muttering about poor Dufferin Hi-Land's signage.  We claim it was not our fault.















































We head north on 1st Line EHS, encountering a bathroom-rubber-duck (a nasal-spray bottle placed beside it for scale), unnecessary detours into the bush arranged by a humorist at the BTC, and a lovely Monarch resting from its labours.

 























We win through to the cemetery where only Frank's car is available for shuttling the morning drivers and their passengers  back to Prince of Wales Road.  There is not room in Frank's car for all of us, so he is obliged to make two trips.  Doug and his passengers, Grace, Laura and Marleen, wait at the cemetery and enjoy a nice chat with the chairman of the cemetery board.  He is also the cemetery's handyman and landscape gardener.  He is a local farmer.  Three generations of his ancestors are buried here.  Most important, he is an expert on where to buy the best ice-cream nearby.



When we four left, we stopped at Shelburne for ice-cream, Coke and coffee.  A very satisfying end to a lovely day!

Caledon Hills Section:  Willoughby Road (15.9 km) to Innis Lake Road (30.8 km) - Nov. 6, 2025. Sixteen of us and a goat (more on the goat later) hiked  15 km from Willoughby Road to Innis Lake Road.   It was a coldish day.  Mixed sun and cloud, with wind that mostly came from the north, sometimes from the east, not from the forecast northwest.  Winter is coming! Off we go, leaving Willoughby Road immediately, climbing to the abandoned wind pump and the library in the bush ... . .. and into a glorious carpet of fallen leaves. Road walking on Escarpment Sideroad (lots more to come) and the Highway 10 pedestrian underpass. Back to the bush ... Back to the Escarpment Sideroad where we spot Toronto on the horiz...

  Fall Series #3 - Sydenham Section - October 7-9, 2025. --------------------------------- Day One - Lundy Road (132.5 km) to Graham's Hill Road (147.7 km) - Oct. 7, 2025. It was a dark and soggy day ... wait ... that was just the forecast. Actually, we lucked out with just a brief shower maybe half-an-hour into the hike.  Check out the 'start' photo - not a poncho among us ... Toronto Section - Winston Churchill Road (42.9 km) to 8th Line (32.3 km) - October 30, 2025.

  Toronto Section - W inston Churchill Road  (42.9 km) to 8th Line (32.3 km) - Oct. 30,2025. Hike #4 in the Toronto Section is 10.6k hike starting at Winston Churchill Blvd through Terra Cotta Conservation area, and finishing at 8th Line. Eleven hikers joined the hike Georgia, Diane, Frances, Frank, Marleen, Annette, Grace, Barbara (HC), Sandra, Rita, and Doug (photos). The trail was covered with fallen leaves but mostly dry which made for a good start to the hike.   We got our bridge picture taken early in anticipation of the forecasted rain. Off we headed along the leafy trail taking care to traverse the hidden rocks. Clothing adjustments shortly after we started kept us busy. It is a perfect start to the hike. Some stretches of the forest in Terra Cotta Conservation area the trees have dropped all their leaves and the trail was a mosaic of bright autumn colours.
