Iroquoia Section - Crawford Lake (104.5) to end of section at Appleby Line and Hwy 401 (120.6), October 24, 2024
This hike was nominally 16.1 kms on the Main Trail but by the time we had added in the south portion of the Crawford Lake Side Trail from the parking lot to the main trail, and the walk north from the Hwy 401 underpass on Appleby Line to the Hilton Falls Parking Lot, the kilometerage had increased to about 19 kms!
Fortunately, it was a magnificent fall day, full of sunshine and quiet breezes, we were all feeling great, and we finished the whole thing by two o'clock, having started walking at 9:00am. And there was ice-cream on the way.
There were ten of us hiking, Rhonda, Marleen, Josie (photographer), Frances, Nancy, Andrea, Steve K. (photographer), Giorgia, Sandra (sweep), and Doug (H.C. and photographer). (Question: how does Ken manage to get everyone in focus in these start-photos?)
Off we go:
Our first clothing adjustment ...
Stopping for elevenses ...
Milton's warehouses where once were farms ...
Down off the escarpment, we pass a Christie-Henderson lime kiln, built in the 1880's and considered among the best-preserved lime kilns in Ontario.
We approach the CPR tracks (which carry the Milton GO trains) ...
A short break to let us all catch-up
